Everybody loves the sunshine - except makeup artists when they have a large bridal party to get ready!
Sweat can wreak havoc with your makeup on a hot day. Follow my sizzling tips for helping your makeup artist ensure your makeup stays put when you feel like you’re melting. Literally.
Skin prep - keep your moisturiser light and leave plenty of time for your skin to absorb it before makeup is applied
SPF - please use a makeup friendly SPF even on your wedding day (apply well in advance so makeup sits well on top and there is no transfer onto your dress). Nobody wants a lobster for a bride! Flash back shouldn’t be an issue unless your photographer is keen on direct flash photography
Location - you may want to think about where you are getting ready. Keep the environment cool by closing curtains, limiting the number of people in the room, shower in a different room and use fans where possible
Blotting papers - handy if you need to mop up that extra shine. The heat increases the production of sebum so can make skin oilier than usual. These handy sheets will absorb sweat and oil from your skin without the need to retouch your makeup
Freshen up - most makeup artists like myself, will use a setting spray to seal in all of the good work they have done. However, using a light facial mist (or a setting spray) throughout the day can help freshen your makeup and keep you cool
Dewy or Matt - my recommendation would be dewy or glowing all the way. There is nothing worse in my opinion, of seeing a beautiful bride with matt skin and a shiny nose / chin /upper lip due to perspiring. Regardless of what you do to lock the makeup in, there is still chance that shine will appear when it’s hot. However, you’ll hardly notice any breakthrough shine with skin that already looks fresh and glowing
Keep cool - you may want to consider buying a hand held paper fan or parasol to keep the direct sun away from your face
I hope these quick and easy tips help you make the most of your wedding day in the sun
