Covid and community

Before I joined the wedding industry I was completely oblivious to the fact that I was joining a huge positive and empathetic community. That community has become part family, part friends and I love it.

So when Covid-19 reared its ugly head and lockdown commenced severely impacting my beloved clients, friends and family, this community stepped up to support each other (and our clients) like no other industry I’ve ever experienced.

Whilst brides and grooms to be had to make the heartbreaking decisions to pause their long awaited wedding days, wedding suppliers were (and still are) working tirelessly in the background looking for solutions to help support our lovely clients.

When Cath from Raspberry Toast reached out and offered to create postponement notifications for couples who found themselves in this difficult position, of course I immediately shared this offer with my brides hoping that it would ease some of the pain.

I really felt saddened and helpless, the first time I heard of couples who needed to postpone their weddings. I’m a hands on person and in times of crisis I like to keep busy. I already offer a DIY service where I create PDF artworks for couples to email to their guests or to print at home. This inspired me to offer any couples who’s wedding plans have been changed by Covid-19, postponement PDF artworks (free of charge). After I’ve created their artwork(s), they can email their guests with details of the ‘change of date’. This offer is open to any couples affected by Covis-19. It’s a small gesture but hopefully will make this time a little easier for those affected.”

As a makeup artist my support has required slightly more complex consideration. Sadly, there have been a few of my current clients who I have been unable to accommodate at their new date. However, I have been able to work with trusted colleagues, who work in a similar way to myself and I have transferred the clients over to them. I’ve handled all of the back office admin so they can concentrate on getting their heads around the situation and start moving forward, safe in the knowledge they are in safe hands.

I’m so happy that I’m part of such a supportive community. One that puts it clients at the heart of all we do, after all we are in the business of love.
